I have one library folder and I try to acces it with the webdav URL given at the bottom of the page :

Hi Daniel,

there is a problem with some characters. Can you browse to the folder when you start at /files/library/ ?

I've just discovered that it's OK because when I do that the french characters are replaced by %C3%A9 or %C3%A8 while with the link given in the Webdav Url they were not replaced. That's perhaps the problem.

 Thanks

Daniel

PS why this text is displayed like that ?

There is some compatible problem in old version of WebClient of Windows.

If you have non-standard ASCII chars, you may meet this problem.

Microsoft has a different encoding scheme on WebClient to work with the old IIS only.

If you try to install newer version of MS Office, such as Office XP or Office 2003, sometimes, the problem can be fixed.

Or try to find a new version of WebClient of Windows.

We have the same problem.

We had to change the workspaces/folders name with no special chars, and spaces, to work with "webdav URL" in windows explorer.

And we try to find some webclient of windows without success.

Some suggest?

Thanks

I created a file folder with spaces and extended characters in the name (copying the same characters from the original posting), and then clicked "View this folder as a WebDAV folder" link from IE browser. I had no problem viewing the folder. So, I'm not sure which mechanism you used to view the folder in Windows Explorer. Did you click the link as I did (which automatically brings up Windows Explorer), or did you cut the WebDAV URL and manually created a Network Place from it?

Also, you might want to try applying the software update from Microsoft (KB907306) and see if it makes difference for you - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=17C36612-632E-4C04-9382-987622ED1D64&displaylang=en

I didn't find "view this folder as a Webdav folder"

I click at the bottom of the page to see all links/url and cut and paste this Webdav  link in a Firefox Browser not IE.

Thanks

Daniel

The WebDAV button/link is not available with FireFox.

When you cut and paste a WebDAV URL into a browser window, the browser performs regular HTTP GET. It is not the same as serving the URL as a remote file in Windows Explorer.

In any event, I cut and pasted the URL into my FF 3.0 browser on Windows XP machine as you described, but I could not reproduce the problem.

I've seen similar problem with Nautilus on Linux when starting URL contains spaces (we filed a bug report on this for Nautilus folks). The workaround was to start with a URL containing no white spaces (eg. the top level) and navigate down to the place you want to work in. This sounds like similar issue, but I can't reproduce it on any of my machines.

I agree it's wroking when I start with a foldername with no space characters.

My tries were done on a laptop running Window seven.

It's possible for me to do some more tries if you want.

Tell me which ones.

Thanks

Daniel

Somebody recommends a free webdav client to work in Windows?

We have a work item created for identifying an official WebDAV driver that works with Teaming (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=573068)

At the moment, we do not have an official recommendation, because our preliminary test showed various problems with different WebDAV drivers.

Unfortunately, the entire WebDAV story is not where it should be, and we have a number of open work items to keep track of progress in that space. Majority (if not all) of the problems come from bugs in various Microsoft products including their WebDAV implementations (specifically, Office DAV and WebDAV re-director) and their tendency to care nothing about non-Sharepoint user base.

The older versions of Sharepoint uses Microsoft's proprietary FrontPage Server Extensions instead of the industry standard WebDAV for authoring support. While the latest Sharepoint 2010 (in beta) uses the standard WebDAV (implemented as WebDAV re-director on the client side), the long-standing bug in the authentication handshake prevents 3rd party WebDAV servers such as Teaming from utilizing it properly.

Teaming engineering has tentative plan for supporting NTLM and/or Kerberos on Microsoft Windows platform. A side benefit of that enhancement would be the ability to utilize the same WebDAV re-director that the Sharepoing 2010 works with. That will make Teaming WebDAV users very happy if their Teaming platform happens to be Microsoft plus Active Directory. Those Linux customers (that is, those who are running Teaming back-end and directory service in Linux environment) will have to wait for other (less dramatic) WebDAV enhancements that we're "hoping" to make in parallel or shortly after.
