Are you sure you set the JAVA_HOME environment variable correctly (with backslashes I think) using the SET command or the controle panel (system --> advanced tab) (I did it via the configuration panel and had to do it in the command line interface as well or restart before the changes took effect). Check this with the SET command. If this var is not set correctly, it would cause the instalation to crash at the moment you describe.
