How are you using Kablink?

Hi all,

I was wondering what other people are using Kablink for. So I thought I'd start with a short overview of what we are using it for. So here it is.

There's basicly three main uses for it in our company.

Internal - We have created several folders (and customized them to our specific needs) which contain things like our knowledgebase, some forms for internal processmanagement for our sales and administration personel, a company calender and offcourse internal tasks and projects.
Customers - Every customer has it's own workspace on the system where they can track Helpdesk trouble tickets, find documentation and manuals, see the latest news about projects or other things we do for them, discuss everything they want (well allmost), and see the status of a project. We have also created folders where we store our bills (online billing) and contracts. Offcourse the last two are only visible for designated people.
Relations - Sometimes we want to share stuff with others then our customers (either private, potential customers or for other business purposes). With Kablink it's easy to share thoughts and ideas with others in a user friendly way.

It took me a couple of months to set everything up, but everything is pretty much in place right now (we are still in the process of giving everyone an account) and we got a lot of positive reactions from customers and other relations. Our site serves as a nice example to our customers on what Kablink/Novell Teaming can do for them as well and we are already talking to several of them about a setting up a system for them.

We are using both Teaming and Conferencing, but Teaming is what we use the most. We use Conferencing only with our bigger customers and only some people were given the abillity to use the client. It's handy when we have a third party on a project and we want to discuss something without having to setup an officemeeting. Besides that some customers like the abillity to IM through Pidgin.

Another thing we found was that we have some smaller customers that work together on things beside what we share with them, so we gave them a workspace to share stuff between eachother also.

Right now we have some 800 users on the system and this is working fine with a two server setup (Teaming server en Conferencing server). We expect to have alle users (some 400-500 more) setup by september.

Does anybody else want to share the use of Kablink? Then please post a reply to this topic. I'm really looking forward to see what others have come up with.

What are the features that your users are requesting the most? What problems do you see new user's experiencing when they first start using?

Good morning,

It is indeed quite useful to know what people can do with Teaming, newly known as Vibe. The company I work for is divided in multiple divisions which have their own technology integration speed. So we began integrating the collaborative tool in one Division in which a team leader was technologically advanced and was able to provide support along the implementation. Wikis, blogs, workspaces was new vocabulary for a majority of employees. So we began adding technical and community content; procedures on one hand, fun content on the other. Trying to get people working with a new tool which they didn't understand was not that simple. Even today, after 3 years using this amazing tool, some people don't want to get it. "I have my email client, my Excel and Word files, why should I share my work" tends to be replaced by "let's work in team to obtain faster results".

My first idea was to integrate an ISO 9001 Portal for internal users.

Procedures - Wiki folders
Forms - File folders
Process objectives - Task folders with updated status
External process evaluations - Surveys folders
ISO reports tracking - Personalized work-flow along with personalized forms to manage nonconformity reports, corrective action reports, preventive action reports

Using landing pages to regroup all pertinent information had been a must. We than integrated team workspaces, for ingeeneers and technicians, work-space for each software or tool we had:

Workload management - A unique tasks folder with multiple filters by user. Using Reporting Services, we created a dashboard for analyses.
Photo albums - Screenshots of available software to show what it looks like. By sharing know how, we use less tools by selecting which one is the best among divisions.
Tickets tracking - Tasks folders to follow bugs and drives user/programmer interactivity
Meeting reviews - Calendar folders in which all meetings are summarized
Training capsules - Wiki entries and topics to manage know how and tips for tools.

Comments feature is widely used as most of people now understand why centralized information is the key for team work. We are now hundreds of users and more than one division on Vibe. Next steps are to integrate parallel work-flows to manage technical drawings approvals which should be challenging.

Hope it helps to understand what we can acheive with this, to say the least, most fantastic and free tool available.
