We are pleased to announce that Kablink Conferencing has released the source bundle for version 1.1. This release includes new exciting new features, IM integration into the Conferencing client and Asterisk integration that allows conferencing calling. The 1.0 release branch of Conferencing utlized Pidgin for IM. This made the install more difficult than it needed to be because we required our own protocol handler for Pidgin. In this release we include our own IM client that can be used directly from the Conferencing client. If, however, you like Pidgin and prefer it. It will still be supported for the foreseeable future. The other great thing about this release is that it now includes Asterisk for conference calling. Previously, Kablink Conferencing did not support calling (the commercial version released by Novell did. We know have bundled Asterisk in with Conferencing to provide conference mixing for our project. We currently don't have great documentation around this feature but would love to have some help from the community to get this exciting feature documented and adopted.

ICEcore, the open source collaboration platform that unifies team workspaces with real-time conferencing, today announced it has changed its name to Kablink(TM) and is adding new workflow functionality to automate and streamline collaboration processes. The only open source collaboration solution to offer workflow, this new capability facilitates and controls information flow throughout an organization and allows sophisticated collaboration applications to be created from the user interface. The name change was instigated by the addition of these new workflow capabilities and by the need to avoid confusion in the marketplace with first generation technologies. The workflow code was contributed by Novell, a sponsor of the Kablink project, and as part of the Kablink collaboration suite will help users save time, reduce human error and improve overall efficiency in their organizations. "Our organization is comprised of busy professionals, all of whom are volunteering their most precious resource: time. We cannot afford to waste a minute of it," said Max Hall, clerk of the Board of Directors at the Discovery Museums in Acton, Mass. "Kablink helps us work efficiently and productively with document sharing and discussion forums all in a single open source solution. Kablink is enabling collaboration and communication throughout our organization, allowing our teams to work together -- where we want, when we want and the way we want -- all while achieving successful results for our institution." In addition to the workflow functionality, Kablink is delivering an improved development toolkit, which extends the core feature set of the platform by simplifying the development of customized collaboration applications. This enhanced toolkit allows users to create targeted applications to address their specific business collaboration needs. Evolving out of SiteScape, the goals of the Kablink project remain the same, to drive effective teamwork through integrated enterprise collaboration and social networking solutions. Working with the open source community, Kablink is developing a suite of team productivity tools for delivering better collaboration solutions that integrate blogs, wikis, conferencing, desktop sharing and document management.
Teaming 2.1 is now available! As you can see from our three beta releases below, Teaming 2.1 can make your organization more productive than ever, with the ability to access Teaming from your mobile phone, view live feeds, export and import workspaces, and much more.
This is the first release in the Teaming project's accelerated release schedule. With your continued participation, we plan to release a brand new version of Teaming every 5 - 8 months.
Big thanks to the Kablink community for helping to make Teaming 2.1 -- and future Teaming releases -- a success!

ICEcore is pleased to announce that we have put together a source bundle of the Team server that will allow our users to experience the next generation of ICEcore Team during our development cycle. We are extremely excited about some of our new features and want lots of feedback on what you think on them. In this release of Team we have added the concepts of "Tracking" and "Sharing". Tracking allows you to keep track of users, workspaces, or folders that you find in the system. Its similar to a bookmark but way better because not only do you have a list of important sites but you also get a "feed" of all the new activity in the areas you are tracking published directly to your Profile page in the "What's New" section. Another tab you will notice on your Profile page is the "Tasks and Calendars" section. This section consolidates all of your tasks and calendars throughout the system so that managing them can be done all from one place. The last new feature I want to mention is the "Activity Feeds and Shared Items" tab. This area is similar to a "Recent Documents" list as it keeps track of what you've been working on and who is available on the system that you are tracking. The addition of the these features will help you stay informed about what's happening throughout your organization and with the people and teams your most interested in. The look and feel of the Team server has also changed. One of the most significant modifications you can try and provide feedback on is the ability for users to experience ICEcore outside of the Liferay portal container. We still require the Liferay server be installed with ICEcore and it will still be used for management tasks like users and sites, but now if you configure ICEcore in the portal-ext.properties file correctly any "non Admin" (see BUILD in release bundle) user will be directed to ICEcore running in fullscreen mode. This should speed the response of the system significantly and in some ways improve the user experience of those who don't take advantage of the portal's features. In addition, we have also modified the Team server's themes and moved Search to the upper portion of the screen. Now you have full access to all the resource of ICEcore whereever you are in the sysytem by using type define in the search fields. The top portion of the screen also includes a new "Twitter" like status that can be set and is visible system wide. Now you can tell people exactly what you are working on whenever you want. Now that you've heard about some of the new features, how can you get them? We haven't created any binary releases yet, but we have been working on our build process and wanted to make this available ASAP. If you follow the instructions enclosed in the .zip file (BUILD file) you shouldn't have too much trouble getting this up and going although it will require a little work. I hope you take the time to try it out I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Welcome to ICEcore! ICEcore is the culmination of 3 years of development effort by SiteScape, a leader software solutions for team collaboration, and has been released under the open source CPAL license. Everyone is free to download, use, and modify to their hearts content. However, we hope you'll try us out, like us, and come back and help us develop ICEcore into something we can't even imagine yet. ICEcore is the first Open Source project to fully integrate team workspaces and real-time conferencing in a single, integrated collaboration environment. It provides all the tools knowledge workers demand most -- blogs, wikis, discussion threads, workflow, document management, file stores, RSS feeds and more. ICEcore helps organizations achieve true collaboration and transform social networking into a competitive advantage. In addition, by using ICEcore Conference users can take advantage of ICEcore's "presence" feature, team members can check if people are available, then meet using instant messaging to examine content, discuss issues, and reach consensus. ICEcore Team is a JSR168 compliant portlet that runs in the Liferay Portal Server and uses many open source components such as Java, Hibernate, Spring, MySQL, and many others. The ICEcore Conference Server is a C and C++ application that integrates with all major IM clients and also supports Real-time application sharing and presence indicators in the ICEcore Team product. ICEcore Conference is also built on popular open source software such as wxWidgets, openssl, and Jabber. This website and our community are built using the ICEcore Team collaboration software. Our software will feel slightly different if you are used to other open source collaboration environments like SourceForge or Freshmeat, however once you try it you'll never want to go back to other ways of collaborating for open source development. One difference you'll notice right away is that we don't use traditional mailing lists, if you want to stay informed about what is happening in the ICEcore Community you simply subscribe to a folder. Subscribing to a folder is similar to subscribing to a mailing list but is completely configurable in when you get notices of new activity. Also, a neat feature that we think you'll like is that when you submit a question in our forums you can subscribe to only that particular entry, so instead on wading through lots of unrelated information from the forum you're only notified when someone responds to your particular issue. An if that's not enough if you register as a member of the community you'll get access to customized information related to bugs you've filed or code you've submitted. It's a great way to stay informed of the status of the project and we think you'll like it alot. However, we do want to note that we are just kicking off our developer community and may not have thought of everything (in fact we're sure we didn't), do we want your input on what we can do better. If you think of something you'd like to see changed or added on the website, let us know.
We are pleased to announce that ICEcore Team Server 1.0.2 has been released as a VMware virtual machine and is available for download on the Download site. It is based on openSUSE and ICEcore 1.0.2 and should run in VMware Player, Fusion, or Server. For details on installing and running the virtual machine visit the ICEcore Wiki for instructions. Have fun and give us your feedback !!
You can now get either a VMware or Xen virtual machine with Kablink Teaming 2.0.1 preinstalled here. These images were produced with the newly released SuseStudio :-) and are only ~300MB to download. Teaming is preconfigured to start with a basic configuration that includes a local mail server for outgoing mail and also the OpenOffice document converter configured as a service. To further refine the setting will require downloading and updating the software using the Teaming installer.

We are just getting started with our library effort and need your help. There are currently two extensions that can be used in a Teaming instance that have been contributed by the community. These are NOT production quality at this time but should instead be used as examples of what is possible.
The Twitter extension can be attached to any Teaming entry and will create a TinyUrl for the entry and most the Title and TinyURL to Twitter when the current user transisions the entry to the Twitter state.
The VideoEntry extension adds support for playing Flash videos to Teaming (think YouTube). It currently only supports Flash video formats and the Firefox browser.
Let's see what else we can do :-).

I just finished a preliminary design/navigation prototype for DISCUSSIONS. The "look and feel", navigation, terminology of our discussions is very weak in the current version. so this is where I decided to begin. I am attaching a PDF document for review and will enjoy any critique at all. Robbin Sitescape UI Designer
ICEcore 1.0.2 has been released. This is a bug fix release that fixes some minor bugs in the GUI and with Lucene indexing. If you upgrade your software to this version be sure and read the release notes located in the readme.txt file of the distribution. You will be required to reindex Lucene after upgrading. Another great thing about this release is it includes our first pass at documenting our web services layer so ICEcore can be integrated into other environments. You can also find this new document in the Documentation section of this website. Check it out.
We had an unplanned outage due to a disk failure last night (Saturday, Jan.26). I hope it didn't inconvenience anyone. At least it happened on a Saturday night ;-)

I posted a TODO list for the project that contains some really great projects that would be great for someone looking to learn more about Kablink Teaming. Each project in the TODO list will also come equipeed with a project mentor from the core team so this is a great chance to get involved and learn alot about how Teaming works. If you are interested just a registered member of kablink.org and "Modify" the task you want to work on by adding your name in the "Assigned To" box. Once the task has been assigned a mentor from the project will also be assigned to help. Thanks.

Teaming and Conferencing now have mailing lists for their respective projects. These lists will have a development focus and discuss topics related to development of the projects. Questions regarding customization, installation, and configuration of Teaming and Conferencing should be asked in the forums.
We have also created a new Announcement list so that community members can stay informed. This list will be low volume and focus on major project news for Teaming or Conferencing.
